You Were Designed with Dominion, Not Defeat (Genesis 1:26â28)
đď¸ Your Original Identity
âThen God said, âLet Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominionâŚââ â Genesis 1:26 (NKJV)
The first recorded words God spoke about humanity were not about weakness, fear, or survival. He said we were made in His image and given dominion.
Before sin, shame, or scarcity entered the pictureâyour identity was settled:
You were created to reflect Godâs character and rule in Godâs authority.
đ Cross-Reference: Image and Authority
âWhat is man that You are mindful of him⌠You made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands.â â Psalm 8:4â6
âAs He is, so are we in this world.â â 1 John 4:17
âPut on the new self⌠created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.â â Ephesians 4:24
God didnât just give you a jobâHe gave you a nature. You werenât made to barely get by; you were created to bear fruit, subdue chaos, and bring order as an extension of His presence.
đĄ Abundance Begins with Identity
You can’t walk in dominion if you’re confused about who you are.
Satanâs first attack was not physicalâit was identity theft.
âDid God really say?â ⌠âYou will be like GodâŚâ â Genesis 3:1,5
Ironically, Adam and Eve were already like God. The enemy didnât try to destroy their authorityâhe got them to doubt they had it.
â Business application: Most entrepreneurs donât burn out because of workâthey burn out because they forgot who they are in the work.
đź Business Application #1: Identity-Driven Business
Your brand is an extension of your spiritual identity.
- You are not an imposterâyou are an ambassador (2 Cor. 5:20).
- You donât hustle for favorâyou operate from grace (Eph. 2:8â10).
- Youâre not just selling a productâyouâre solving chaos with order, just like your Creator.
What would shift in your business if you stopped chasing success and started walking in dominion?
âď¸ Devotional Reflection
In Genesis 1:28, God blessed them and then commanded them to:
- Be fruitful
- Multiply
- Fill the earth
- Subdue it
- Have dominion
Notice the order: Blessing precedes responsibility.
God never tells you to do something without first empowering you to do it.
That means everything you need for your calling already existsâin you, or accessible by faith.
𧹠Business Application #2: Your Work is a Garden
Adamâs first job was gardeningânot just plants, but potential.
âThen the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden⌠to tend and keep it.â â Genesis 2:15
Your business is a gardenâit requires intentional cultivation.
Donât expect fruit without effort. But donât expect fulfillment without alignment, either.
Ask:
- Am I tending to what God gave me?
- Am I working in my assignment, or just chasing income?
đĄď¸ Identity Warfare: The Flesh and the Fraud
Your flesh says:
- âYouâre not enough.â
- âYouâre falling behind.â
- âYouâll be exposed.â
But God says:
âYou are My workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works.â â Ephesians 2:10
When you build from false identity, you end up with false fruit:
Comparison, fear, over-functioning, imposter syndrome.
âď¸ Business Application #3: Fight from Identity, Not for It
You are not trying to become a âsuccessful entrepreneurââyou are a Son or Daughter of the King with an assignment in the marketplace.
That changes:
- How you handle failure (it’s training, not identity loss)
- How you handle rejection (you were already accepted)
- How you handle success (itâs stewardship, not self-worth)
Your identity is not in your numbersâitâs in your nature.
đ Final Reflection
In Genesis 1, your original design was image and dominion.
In Genesis 3, the enemy tempted you to doubt it.
In Christ, your image and dominion are restored (Romans 5:17).
Donât let a fallen world define what a risen Savior has already secured.
You were created to:
- Multiply excellence
- Subdue confusion
- Lead with integrity
- Reflect Godâs nature in your niche
Walk like you’re made in His imageâbecause you are.
